Our client is a $40M, Privately-held, Austin-based Software/Technology company that is in need of a Corporate Controller.

responsibilities:

1. Oversee Accounting: handling the day-to-day financial needs .

  • Oversee and manage daily accounting needs including payables, receivables, bank accounts, inventory
  • Manage month end closing thru balance sheet within 5 business days including reconciliations
  • Oversee and support payroll needs, 401k/benefits accounting, sales tax
  • Ensure timely and accurate invoicing, reconciliation of GL with detailed internal BIMS GM/sales system
  • Answer questions from the business, resolve issues
  • Build relationship with Bass Controller & cross-train to be able to back each other up
  • Manage commercial insurance relationship & support contract/legal needs

2. Financial reporting: maintain financial dashboard and report results to the business.

  • Assist in preparation of annual budgets, variance reporting, forecasts.
  • Report monthly results to department leads, provide detail as needs, assist in updating forecasts.
  • With CFO, design financial dashboards, update metrics, report results, identify issues.
  • Assist in preparing board reports
  • Create, maintain reports in ERP as needed to support ad hoc requests for financial information.
  • With CFO, provide financial analysis to the business as needed including market analysis, margin analysis, pricing support, customer/product profitability
  • Partner with the executive team to ensure business needs are being met by assisting in the preparation for financial reviews and board meetings/presentations

3. Process support: create, improve and ensure compliance for accounting process.

  • Ensure accounting processes are documented and cross training plans established and executed ensuring continuity of accounting operations and uninterrupted PTO.
  • Lead the accounting processes including financial statement preparation, month end close, journal entry preparation, and transaction processing.
  • Develop, document, monitor, and enforce policies, procedures and internal controls to support timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Manage and streamline month-end accounting process, ensuring conformance with US GAAP including assessments and action plans associated with the implementation of new standards (e.g., ASC 606 and ACS 842).

4. Compliance: Ensure we comply with regulations & keep us organized.

  • Research professional GAAP literature and draft appropriate memoranda to support the company's application of GAAP for specific issues.
  • Ensure the successful completion of the end-year audit and support our relationships with external auditors, tax advisors and consultants
  • With HR & outside support, manage 401k audits and resolve issues as needed
  • Interface with ownership group and tax advisors to provide tax information, support audits

5. Managing myself & my team: relentless improvement.

  • Understand key HR needs of my team, identify holes, develop plan to fill needs, build bench strength, identify & develop high potential people, work with underperforming to improve.
  • Help my team understand more about their strengths. Help them get better & find the career they want. Develop training plans, rewards, plan & process compensation, support 121, recognize success.

Required qualifications:

  • B.S. in accounting from a respected educational institution.
  • 8 years in corporate accounting, 4 years in a Controller role or related position.
  • Experience with large ERP systems with preference for Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains experience.
  • 5 years of leadership/direct supervision experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; self-starter, independent, does not require a lot supervision.
  • Strong process implementation and internal control skills, desire and ability to define efficient process and follow process carefully, attention to detail and passion for getting the details right, organized.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
