job summary:

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for the timely, accurate and efficient preparation of both internal and external financial statements (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Form 1, 3-Q), management reports, supervision of corporate accounting operations and maintenance of controls and documentation. This position will lead projects related to technical and emerging accounting areas, including the new revenue recognition and lease standards, as well as other process improvement efforts. The position interacts with senior management including playing a key role to provide support to the external auditors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, Revenue Recognition, GAAP and FERC accounting and reporting requirements, multi-entity org structure with allocations of expenses
  • File quarterly and annual reports with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and debt holders
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements compliant with GAAP and FERC requirements
  • Support monthly management reporting and quarterly Board reporting
  • Lead the preparation of regulatory reporting
  • Supervise and conduct the research of technical accounting issues for compliance with GAAP and FERC guidance
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure accuracy and quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Develop and document business processes, accounting policies and internal controls
  • Create an environment that encourages and supports the development and learning of staff through regular feedback, coaching, training, work experiences, and performance management.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and manage the annual external audit
  • Maintain a comprehensive system of accounting records
  • Recommend benchmarks for the measurement of company financial performance goals
  • Support analysis of capital investments/asset acquisitions, contract negotiations, and pricing decisions

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven working experience as a Financial Controller, Assistant Controller or Director of Technical Accounting or Reporting
  • 10+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience 10 years
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration
  • CPA required
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience with creating financial statements and month-end/year end close process
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with executive management and all levels of the organization across functional areas.
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a high pressure, start-up culture
