job summary:

Large, complex Real Estate Management Company headquartered in Queens, NY seeks an Assistant Controller to join their Accounting team. The Assistant Controller will be an integral part of the finance team reporting to the Controller. The role is responsible for all aspects of transactional accounting, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and preparing monthly and interim financial statements, in accordance with established policies and procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This role will also assist with the Company's enhancement and adherence of internal controls, policies and procedures and responsible for identifying and preventing discrepancies and managing the Accounting staff while working closely with the Controller to ensure accurate monthly financial closes and a smooth year-end audit.

  • Manage Accounts Payable function, ensuring accurate and timely vendor invoice cycle and disbursements.
  • Manage Accounts Receivable function, ensuring accurate and timely customer invoicing and cash receipts application.
  • Perform full accounting cycle for the month-end closings and prepare financial statements.
  • Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information, ensuring input accuracy and proper allocations.
  • Ensure the integrity of the accounting information; maintain subsidiary account balances by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies.
  • Interpret and support detailed monthly revenue and expenses variance against prior year, budget, and forecasts:
  • Responsible for periodic revenue reporting and reconciliations in accordance tenant agreements.
  • Review of account reconciliations prepared by Accounting staff to assist in training and accurate reporting
  • Assist the Controller in producing accurate and timely Quarterly financial statements, both Accrual and Cash basis.
  • Support year-end audit process including liaison with outside auditors.
  • Support the Quarterly Forecast process as well as the Annual Budget process.
  • Support the Quarterly and Annual tax package requirements.
  • Responsible for managing the Company's daily operational data and ensuring data integrity and accuracy
  • Responsible for managing system hardware and software applications (Navision).
  • Assist in development of system controls to ensure data integrity
  • Assist in development of operational procedures and documentation of data flow
  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP, financial and accounting metrics and principles
  • Experience with month-end close, preparing financial statements and analyzing and communicating financial information
  • Solid, hands on experience with large ERP system
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, pivot reporting, VLOOKUP, advanced charting, advanced formulas)
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Accounting from accredited University or College
  • Minimum seven (7) years relevant professional experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of personnel management experience
  • Experience in commercial real estate or construction a plus
