Prestigious University in Westchester County seeks to hire an Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller is an integral part of the Accounting leadership team. The Assistant Controller provides a broad range of Accounting and Finance services with a focus on internal controls This position is responsible for managing Operational Accounting which include Accounts Payable, Payroll and the General Ledger.

responsibilities:
- Management of accounts payable and payroll operations.
- General accounting functions; reconciliation, recording ledger activity, preparing financial reports. Review of financial transactions and approval of journal entries. Direct responsibility for supervision of the general ledger.
- Provides material contribution for annual audits and tax compliance reporting. Prepares all 990 tax requests, manages W2 reporting and quarterly tax filings.
- Contributes to policy development and updates as part of the Controllers group
- Identifies areas for system efficiencies and improvements. Contributes to the department internalization of new tools and efficiencies.
- Assist the Controller with the monthly and year-end financial close and preparation of the annual financial statements.
- Assist in coordination of the annual audit activities, including preparation and review of workpapers and account reconciliations.
- Prepare month-end, year-end, and recurring journal entries.
- Lead in reconciliation of general ledger activity, inter-fund activity, researching reconciling items and maintenance of restricted funds..
- Assist in projecting and monitoring cashflow, as well as revenue and expense summaries.
- Oversee preparation of tax schedules for 990 filing.
- Research proper accounting treatment for transactions.
- Provide support and assistance to department management with respect to development and coordination of financial management reporting and related processes.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of plans, decisions, policies and initiatives.
- Oversee staff of 4 including general accounting, accounts payable and payroll.
- Manage the student accounts receivable process.
- Manage the fixed assets reporting of the University, interfacing with Facilities to make sure assets are properly placed in service once determined to be in use.
- Oversee the preparation and distribution of 1099s.
- Prepare notes to the audited financial statements.
- Manage the grants reporting for the University, which includes reviewing budgets, working with the PIs to request drawdowns and requesting funds from agencies.
qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years' experience with at least 3 being in a non-profit organization or Higher Education
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
- CPA preferred.
