Tatum Professional Search has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Finance and Accounting, located in the Northeast Metro Atlanta (GA) area. Our client is the 3rd largest electric membership cooperative in the US. This position will supervise the finance and accounting section of the Company to ensure proper recording and presentation of the assets, liabilities and margins of the Company; to provide financial and statistical data to management for use in the areas of financial planning, work plans and budgetary controls; to develop and maintain accounting and finance systems to help ensure that the financial resources of the Company are being utilized as efficiently as possible; to consistently provide the highest level of work performance in a team oriented environment in accordance with the Company's mission, vision, and values.

responsibilities:

1. Supervise the finance and accounting section to assure that accounting principles and procedures used are those prescribed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and RUS uniform system of accounts.

2. Develop and maintain accounting and finance system designs that ensure that the requirements listed in number 1 are fulfilled and provide management with the financial data necessary to make sound business decisions.

3. Coordinate the scheduling of the annual independent audit, and assist Company auditors by providing necessary working papers, explanations and documentation of Company records.

4. Coordinate submission of the required documentation during a major storm event when declared by FEMA.

5. Prepare and maintain the Company's financial forecast, budget and loan application etc., ensuring the goals and objectives set forth in the Equity Management Plan are adhered to.

6. Create the annual budget for the Finance, Accounting & Risk Management Department and compare actual results to budgeted projections monthly.

7. Lead the monthly analysis of budget-to-actual results for all departments/districts.

8. Analyze the monthly financial statements upon close for completion and accuracy.

9. Oversee the preparation of the monthly financial board presentation.

10. Analyze electric and miscellaneous accounts receivable bad debt monthly, making recommendations to management to maximize collections of member bad debt.

11. Serve as the liaison with the third-party collection agency, ensuring that the collections of member bad debt is maximized.

12. Assist in gathering data necessary for Cost of Service studies and participate on the committee conducting this study.

13. Supervise capital credit allocations and retirements according to established procedures and applicable laws.

14. Maintain a complete working knowledge of the technology-based system as applied to the accounting function and achieve a general knowledge of all other aspects of the technology-based systems that are integrated with the accounting function.

15. Supervise the work order plant accounting function of the Company.

16. Support the Supervisor of Accounting to ensure all vendors and employees are paid timely and accurately.

17. Annually, oversee the preparation of Forms W-2 and 1099.

18. Review and sign all payroll tax returns. Including, but not limited to: Federal forms 940 and 941, Georgia forms DOL-4 and G-1003, and the W-3.

19. Evaluate the need for capital; prepare recommendations and necessary documentation to acquire capital in keeping with the objectives of the Equity Management Plan.

20. Create monthly cash forecast and ensure the cash of the Company is fully utilized according to the cash management plan of the Company.

21. Compose and make effective presentations to all levels inside or outside of the company, including the Board of Directors if necessary.

22. Be familiar with and follow the best safety practices set forth in the Company's Safety Manual.

23. Attend and participate in Annual Meeting as required or directed.

24. Perform other activities as required or directed.

 
qualifications:

EDUCATION: Require Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting field. Require CPA, Master of Accounting, or MBA.

EXPERIENCE:

Requires a minimum of six (6) years of work experience in the area of accounting and finance at a Electric Membership Cooperative, or natural gas company, municipal or city water company, power company, city utility or similar.

Prefer experience in using RUS/FERC Uniform System of Accounts.

Prefer emphasis in accounting systems design, financial controls, financial analysis, internal audit controls and budgetary planning.

Must have at least (2) two years of supervisory experience including recommendations, guidance and counseling in a program of employee training, development and improvement.

Prefer experience in situations that involved influencing individuals outside the organization to obtain their cooperation and approval of favorable courses of action.

KNOWLEDGE:

Requires a working knowledge of the principles, theories and practices of accounting and finance as prescribed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Requires experience in performing spreadsheet operations on a computer utilizing Microsoft applications.

Requires an understanding of the principles of supervision in motivating those supervised to effective performance and a coordinated team effort.

Requires ability to pursue a continuous program of self-development both inside and outside of work hours in furthering his/her knowledge to develop in the job and accept increasing responsibilities.

SKILLS:

Requires effective leadership skills, excellent communication skills, both written and oral and the ability to work in a team environment.

Requires the ability to do the following: analyze problems and requirements and plan systems and courses of action which will achieve a consistent, coordinated and improved level of operating results; effectively supervise, train and motivate assigned employees; develop and maintain good morale; possess excellent interpersonal skills and be capable of conveying a positive and professional image; able to lead and coordinate multiple activities and projects simultaneously; devise means of securing maximum efficiency of personnel and equipment; apply research and study for evaluating activities and keeping abreast of developments in the electric distribution industry; complete detailed analysis and computational tasks with accuracy. Prefer the ability to engage, persuade and influence to a senior level and present complicated information and ideas concisely.

Requires the ability to supervise the accounting section; coordinate the activities related to the accounting of the assets, liabilities and margins of the Company; and provide the technical expertise necessary to help ensure the stable financial position of the Company.

Reports to: Managing Director - Finance, Accounting & Strategy

Directs: Supervisor of Accounting, Plant Accountant and Finance & Accounting Administrator

Internal: Actively participates within the Company a team environment to develop supportive relationships essential to the success of the functions of this position, achieving the results expected and encouraging throughout the organization the concepts of teamwork and cooperative spirit.

External: Develops and maintains supportive relationships with member/consumers, the general public, and other external contacts to assure positive results.

This position is primarily sedentary work; requires visual acuity in machine operation with inspection; requires ability to hear, talk, and perform repetitive motions; and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
