job summary:

Financial Analyst

As the Financial Analyst, you will provide vital support through your responsibilities for the execution of financial processes and analyses integral to forecasting, budgeting and long-range planning for programs and scientific initiatives conducted by one of DC's largest philanthropic institutions.

Reporting to the Grants Finance Manager, you will summarize financial information, analyze trends, and develop monthly and quarterly reports, as well as make recommendations and provide independent, substantive support including the preparation of presentations to management. You will also explain and synthesize concepts and data in a written format for audiences both within the finance team and beyond.

responsibilities:
  • Budgeting - Develop, coordinate, and analyze budgets for Grants and DEI programs, including meeting with budget area heads and cost center managers to assist in developing their zero-based budgets. Assist in consolidation of budgets for overall presentation to management. Reconcile the annual budget upload in Workday and Cognos.
  • Management Reporting, Forecasting, and Variance Analysis - Summarize financial information for monthly, quarterly, year-end and ad hoc management presentations including results on actuals and projections. Analyze expenditures. Recommend forecast adjustments and prepare variance analysis.
  • Long Range Planning - Assist in the development and maintenance of long-range financial planning models for the Grants and DEI programs and facilitate the incorporation of those into the Science long range plan.
  • Grants and DEI Program Management - Be a leader in the initiation of awards, to include cost center creation and management, role assignment, and access control. Quarterly reconcile grant program approvals, budgets, and payment activity.
  • Administrative Accounting - Contribute to the monthly and year-end financial close process by preparing correcting journal adjustments, payroll adjustments and budget transfers.
  • Liaison and Customer Service - Build strong relationships with assigned budget owners to ensure collaborative efforts in preparation of budgets and forecasts. Serve as a resource to the budget owners and as the subject matter expert on grants management, reporting, budgets, actual expenses/revenues and causes for variances. Provide assistance with a high customer service orientation.
  • Others - Provide ad hoc analysis as needed.
 
qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Minimum three years of experience in budget planning and financial analysis.
  • High-level proficiency in data modeling and spreadsheet analysis is required.
  • High-level proficiency in MS Office Suite, Adobe, Workday, Tableau and Cognos Café or similar systems is preferred.

This organization is based in the DC suburbs and will operate on a hybrid office schedule in 2022. Annual salary is $90,000 - 100,000 + comprehensive benefits and retirement package.
