Financial Controller

Currently working with successful non-profit organization that is looking for a Financial Controller for the company. Company is mission driven to service under-serviced families and low income children. Company has been growing a lot over the last few years and has strong growth plans the next few years to expand. Looking for a hands on Controller under the CFO to manage full scope accounting and grant accounting operations and help further develop the accounting department. Position will support various process improvement and system implementation initiatives. Qualified candidates will have 5-10+ years of experience including experience with grant/fund accounting. The Financial Controller will be overseeing the Finance Team. The ideal candidate will have strong non-profit accounting experience, progressively taking on more responsibilities and senior roles. The candidate will have experience leading a team. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, this person will help us continue developing our processes, policies, and procedures, and maintain internal financial controls.


  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems.
  • Coordinate all audit activity.
  • Prepare annual 990 tax form and all other regulatory filings.
  • Establish and develop financial benchmarks, budgets, monitoring of same, and reporting standards.
  • Analyze financial data and create and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes, and financial status.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, and make recommendations for adjustments as needed.
  • Assist in the annual budgeting and planning process.
  • Implement and maintain accounting policies, practices, and procedures according to GAAP and FASB.
  • Maintain internal controls.
  • Maintain internal safeguards for revenue, expenses, and organizational budgets.
  • Support the Board of Director's Audit, Finance, and Investment committees.
  • Work closely with the Development and Scholarship teams.
  • Work closely with the Grants Manager to monitor grant expenditures and reporting.
  • Work with insurance providers to review and maintain adequate insurance coverage.


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years' experience
  • Strong fund accounting experience
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • High level of professionalism
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and initiative and the ability to work independently
  • History of working effectively as part of a team
