Project Accountant/Controller/Full-Charge Bookkeeper

Our Construction Client is seeking a Project Accountant who is organized, has strong communication skills, pays attention to detail, and has the ability to work in a fast-paced environment all while managing accounting information for multiple construction projects. Responsibilities include preparation of monthly AIA invoices and processing of monthly subcontractors & supplier invoices for payment. Preparation and analysis of monthly financial projection reports. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with vendors and staff and be able to investigate and resolve issues associated with project financial information. At least five years of construction accounting experience is required.

This position will start full time in office (South Philly, 19148) and eventually move to hybrid 50/50.

  • Responsible for all accounting operations, month end, quarterly and yearly closings.
  • Provide cash and treasury management, including overseeing reconciliation of banking activity, revenue, and investment accounts.
  • Assist Project Managers with project budgeting and forecasting.
  • Analyze contract billing terms and ensure invoices are prepared in accordance with those requirements on a timely basis each month. Review and analyze Unbilled Charges on a monthly basis.
  • Effectively communicate with Project Managers (PM) regarding contract documents, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services-related to billing.
  • Maintain proactive relationship with Project Managers and owner
  • Prepare and maintain client billing, submit timely invoices and meet with Project Managers to ensure accurate project status. Maintain the billing folders for all projects, with all the appropriate documents, including expenses, consultant invoices, and monthly invoices, in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Enter cash receipts into the accounting system.
  • Prepare monthly cash reconciliation for the main checking account.
  • Review and process employee expense reports, ensuring accuracy in accordance with company policy and appropriate charge-offs to projects.
  • Review and process employee timesheets, ensuring accuracy in accordance with company policy.
  • Manage the preparation of financial reports, cost reports, balance sheets, budgets, and financial forecasts. (when needed)
  • Managed all accounting operations including monthly billings, A/R & A/P.
  • Conducted month-end review of trial balance, general ledgers, and income statements and analyzed variances.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or relevant experience with 5+ years office experience
  • 5+ years of experience in the construction or property consulting industry
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong customer service skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills are required to be considered for this position
  • Working knowledge of Quickbooks required
  • Other duties will include: completing tasks as assigned by the owner, providing support to other staff members, and various office duties as needed.
