job summary:

Our client, a prestigious law firm is seeking a Retirement Plan Coordinator to assist in all aspects of administration and compliance of the Firm's retirement benefit plans and will have direct visibility with Firm management and leadership. This position will require general accounting experience as this role will be assisting with Plan audits.

  • Calculate and remit profit sharing contributions to the 401(k) plan;
  • Coordinate employee education meetings with all U.S. firm offices;
  • Calculate distribution benefits for the Defined Benefit Plan and prepare annual account statements;
  • Facilitate quarterly Retirement Plan Committee meetings and prepare meeting minutes.

Essential Functions of Job:

  • Interface with Defined Benefit Plan and Defined Contribution Plan service providers, ERISA Counsel, Human Resources and Accounting departments;
  • Serve as primary contact for annual retirement plan audits and coordinate the exchange of information;
  • Independently resolve issues related to the plans' outside auditors and third party record-keeper;
  • Assist employees with benefit questions, research, follow-up timely and accurately;
  • Manage administration of retirement plan, including plan eligibility, enrollment and accounts payable;
  • Reconcile census data for the plan's Non-Discrimination compliance testing;
  • Review, edit and prepare Form 5500 for final review and filing;
  • Prepare and distribute employee communications and plan disclosures, such as Qualified Default Investment Alternatives (QDIA), 404(a) fee disclosures, Summary Annual Reports;
  • Facilitate 401(k) payroll funding requests for approval.


Required Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of general accounting experience;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
  • Exceptional people skills with experience and desire to help employees at all levels;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction;
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Benefits administration experience preferred.


Preferred: Bachelor's Degree

Major: Accounting or Finance, preferred

License and Certification

Required: Retirement Plan Fundamentals Certification from ASPPA (can be completed shortly after hire).

Computer/Software Knowledge

Required: Outstanding computer skills including but not limited to MS Excel and Word, Web-based programs and tools.

Preferred: Expert-level Microsoft Excel a plus.
