job summary:

Tatum is currently assisting a company with a senior accountant search. The company offers an 80k+ salary range, a HYBRID schedule, and PENSION.

The task of the senior accountant will be to efficiently and accurately handle all analysis and reconciliations, support the month-end + year-end closeouts, research accounting issues, prepare the board package, prepare audit/tax regulatory filings, and distribute reports.

  • Support the Finance Manager on department projects
  • Direct the other Finance department staff
  • Coordinate and review work of department
  • Record classify and post details of business transactions in accordance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Responsible for review and preparation of journal entries for month-end close
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations and analysis, including balance sheet and income statement schedules
  • Evaluate transactions recorded to conform to the generally accepted accounting principles
  • Identify and remediate reconciling items
  • Perform and review monthly/quarterly/annual reconciliations with subsidiaries, affiliated entities, and third parties for settlement of balances
  • Perform and review monthly/quarterly/annual allocation of expenses including CAM charges amongst entities
  • Prepare financial statements (balance sheet, income statement and other statements) and supporting schedules and ongoing ad-hoc reports as necessary to support the Finance department and business
  • Perform special analysis on financial data impacting business operations
  • Identify accounting issues, handle advanced accounting research, and advise staff on proper accounting practices
  • Review accounting staff on day to day accounting activities
  • Work with other support functions to obtain the necessary information to prepare, analyze and input transactions related to assets, liabilities, revenue, and expense to the general ledger
  • Prepare or review actual vs budget reports after month-end close
  • Prepare board reports and compile final product for Board Meeting presentations
  • Prepare regulatory filings within due dates
  • Assist with the coordination and completion of annual financial statements and compliance audits
  • Assist with the compilation of information necessary for the preparation of the organization's Form 990
  • Identify and implement areas of improvement within the finance/accounting process that contribute to efficient and effective workflows


  • 5+ years of Accounting experience
  • Preferably experience with Public Accounting
  • Candidates with healthcare industry experience with Health Plans and Clinics preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or related field or equivalent work experience required
  • Advanced level Microsoft Office skills (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) especially Microsoft Excel
  • Strong understanding of accounting theory, principles (GAAP), and industry practices
  • Project management skills
  • Know a wide range of automated financial systems and applications software
  • SAGE, Intaact (general ledger), Adaptive, AP workflow, and Expense Reimbursement
  • May be required to do some travel
