Senior Accountant for Non-Profit

A bipartisan public policy non-profit established over 60 years ago, and now with more than 300 employees, seeks a Senior Accountant to join its Finance Department. The Senior Accountant serves as the primary liaison to the Office of Human Resources (HR) and CSIS staff on all payroll related inquiries or requests, as well as outside payroll related vendors for those payroll functions which are outsourced. The Senior Accountant is also responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of employee data across multiple payroll and accounting systems. Finally, this position serves as the Finance & Accounting team lead on all payroll related requests, schedule preparation, and reporting required to support the annual financial statement audit, annual 403(b) audit, and annual W2 and Form 990 filings.

· Manage full payroll cycle process for hourly and salaried staff and intern payments;

· Coordinate with HR to update ADP Workforce Now, Microsoft Dynamics SL, and Databasics for new hires, terminations, and leaves of absences; as well as all payroll related transactions including pay increases, garnishments, manual checks, bonuses, additional compensation, and payroll deductions including payroll advance deductions;

· Maintain payroll and timekeeping databases to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of employee and intern information, as well as, other company information, such as project and rent codes, etc.;

· Perform regular review and GL reconciliation of salaries & wages, payroll taxes, benefit deductions such as FSA, parking, retirement deferrals, etc.;

· Review leave accrual usage and balances to ensure compliance with company policies;

· Process annual W2s and maintain payroll reports;

· Prepare management reports of payroll activity and create custom payroll reports, including labor distribution reports, as needed using Databasics;

· Inform budget analyst of any payroll changes that affect budget data (i.e. new hires, terminations, promotions, bonuses, rent);

· Serve as primary F&A team lead for system upgrades and migrations;

403(b) Administration and Compliance:

· Coordinate with HR to ensure that payroll related retirement transactions are accurately reflected in payroll systems and the General Ledger;

· Quarterly review and reconciliation of TIAA Cref deposits to payroll data generated for employee deferrals and employer contributions and match;

· Ensure timely remittance of TIAA Cref deposits of deferrals and contributions within 3 business days following a payroll pay date and verify new accounts before depositing funds;

· Serve as the lead on annual audit schedule preparation, compliance testing, and Form 5500 filing for the plan;

Other Responsibilities:

· Setup new employees and maintain employee and project data in the Concur expense reporting system.

· Reconcile Amex charges in Concur to the bill statement and general ledger

· Record bi-weekly payroll journal entry

· Other Finance and Accounting duties assigned.


? Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field;

? Strong proficiency with payroll and related compliance regulations. Familiarity with

403B payroll related compliance;

? Proficiency using ADP Workforce Now, Databasics, and MS Office;

? Must be detail-oriented and have strong time management, organization, analytical, and problems solving skills;
