Senior Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller

Currently working with a hyper growth start up company that is planning on growing by 3x in the next 14-16 months. Position will be first accounting hire under the Head of Finance to build out the team, implement a new system and process, as well as someone that can ramp into a Controller position. Qualified candidates will have 7+ years of experience within growth start up companies and/or public accounting. CPA is a plus, but not required. Please apply directly for more information.

responsibilities:

The Senior Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller will report directly to the VP of Finance. As a key leader in the growing Finance and Accounting function, you will have the opportunity to build a world-class accounting team from the ground up as the company enters into a hyper-growth stage. We are looking for someone with a knack for leading with high standards, positively motivating others, and making critical decisions and have experience taking charge of an accounting department to become a Controller at a fast growth company. This role's duties will require planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. The candidate must lead with integrity and reliability and have the ability to manage him/herself and others with urgency, practicality and accountability when tasked with responsibilities. We highly value team players with a talent for challenging the status quo, coming up with unique ideas, negotiating and influencing others.

Key responsibilities

  • Own, perform and oversee tasks associated with timely completion of month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
  • Oversee the activities of the accounting department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
  • Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or company-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required
  • Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet company expectations
  • Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management
  • Work with the VP of Finance & Strategy on key financial reports to executive committee and key business partners each month
  • Collaborate with executive team and business partners to support efficient and effective company-wide financial operation
  • Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies that are suitable for the current stage of the business
  • Work with the executive team on the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis
  • Able to perform additional tasks beyond formal job duties
  • You will have the chance to build a strong foundational accounting team as you see fit that can support the company as it enters into a hyper growth stage

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as an Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager preferred
  • Extensive Month-end and year end closings experience required
  • Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines
  • Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
  • Detail-oriented and enjoys solving accounting issues
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field, CPA is highly preferred
  • Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued
  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Extensive experience with accounting software such as Quickbooks, Netsuite, Microsoft Dynamics GP or other comparable systems. Familiar with system implementation is desirable
