Senior Financial Analyst

A leading non-profit child advocacy organization seeks a Financial Analyst. This position will report to the Director of Accounting and the CFO. The aim of this organization is to lift children out of poverty; protect them from abuse and neglect; and ensure their access to health care, quality education and a moral and spiritual foundation. Supported by foundation and corporate grants and individual donations, this organization advocates nationwide on behalf of children to ensure children are always a priority. Headquarters are in Washington, DC.

responsibilities:

Budget and Forecasting

? Assist CFO to drive and manage the budget/forecast financial planning process;

? Assist State Directors and Division Leads with preparation of annual budget and

quarterly forecasts;

? Proactively work to update budget structure and methodologies

? Aid in the capital budgeting and expenditure planning processes using excel and incorporating into depreciation and amortization planning

? Identify and drive process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, tools, and Excel dashboard;

Monthly Financial Reporting

? Process and publish monthly financial close in Planful; import and configure Intacct accounting system data

? Prepare and distribute monthly financial close reports which includes preliminary review and analysis;

? Meet with Controller to review financial results for completeness and accuracy

? Report on financial performance and together with the Controller/CFO conduct periodic financial reviews with leadership;

? Assist Grant Manager in developing a grant reporting structure to improve grant reporting and management;

? Analyze financial data and create financial models to support management's decision making;

? Evaluate financial performance by comparing and analyzing actual results with budget and forecasts;

? When appropriate, benchmark actual results with historical financial results

? Develop financial models to support valuation, planning, and forecasting

? Provide analysis of trends and forecasts and recommend actions for optimization;

? Recommend actions by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses; study proposed changes in methods and materials;

Cash Management

? Timely processing of local cash receipts and credit cards

? Manages Fiscal Year End cash receipts cutoff to insure compliance with audit

requirements for recognizing donation revenue.

? Managing accounts receivable

o Maintaining accurate sub-ledger

o Timely posting of unapplied cash

o Timely review of aged balances and reporting aged accounts to the CFO/Controller

General Ledger Accounting

? Maintaining an accurate Fixed Assets schedule;

? Managing a dozen State Petty Cash accounts, including recording monthly expenses and preparing monthly bank reconciliations;

? Miscellaneous general journal entries and reconciliation of assigned balance sheet accounts to ensure the accuracy of information in the general ledger;

? Recording expenses against travel advances;

? Preparing work papers for annual audits and tax returns;

? Providing prompt customer service via phone and email to regional offices;

? Flexibility to shift priorities and work on other Finance Department tasks as requested.

 
qualifications:

? Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics required with a Master in

Business Administration preferred;

? General ledger accounting experience required with non-profit or public

accounting experience being a plus;

? Knowledge of database theory & design favorable

? Familiarity with data query/data management tools (Advanced Microsoft Excel,
