  • Approve or deny loan applications and provide written and verbal documentation to support the lending decision
  • Responsible for underwriting 1st and 2nd mortgages in accordance to portfolio, FHLMC, FHA and VA guidelines as well as overseeing the processing and closing of residential mortgage loans.
  • Underwrite and/or originate mortgage and equity loans
  • Responsible for pipeline management to ensure timely processing of mortgage applications.
  • Ensure that loans are processed in accordance to company policies and procedures and if applicable will meet secondary market guidelines
  • Conducts credit analysis relative to home loan applicants, verifying borrower's credit and employment history. Reviews appraiser's report on property described in loan application, evaluating construction design, sales price, etc. Must be able to judge the sale price as compared to current market value and assess future marketability.
  • Determine collateral needs and payment plans for customers applying for loans
  • Evaluate and analyze complex income documentation to establish qualifying income
  • Thorough understanding of state and federal regulations is required as well as a solid understanding of HMDA, Reg Z, Reg B, the FHLMC, FNMA, FHA rules and process
  • Assume responsibility for HMDA accuracy and assist with preparation for reporting
  • Implement new loan products and services in accordance with management direction
  • Performs quality control check of all closed loans to ensure compliance with all regulations, policies and secondary market guidelines.
  • 5 years' experience in mortgage lending underwriting
  • Familiar with secondary market mortgage pricing and sales requirements
  • Able to demonstrate strong customer services attributes.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Able to multi-task and work independently
