job summary:

Tatum Professional Search has an immediate opportunity for a Staff Accountant, available with a well-established and growing office equipment and janitorial supplies distribution client, headquarters in Smyrna, GA. The Staff Accountant applies principles of accounting to record and analyze customer rebates and prepares financial reports by performing various duties. This position works with the department manager, DC managers, and HQ management to understand customer agreements and to ensure accurate expense accrual and payment of rebates.

responsibilities:

-Works with the department manager, DC managers, and HQ management to understand customer agreements and to ensure accurate expense accrual and payment of rebates.

-Compiles and analyzes customer rebate information to accurately prepare entries to general ledger accounts, documenting rebates earned.

-Prepares monthly reports and reconciliations to summarize customer rebate activity.

-Performs analysis of rebates and prepares monthly, quarterly and annual checks to customers.

-Audits rebates against contracts to ensure compliance.

-Performs analysis of purchases to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes in rebate accrual and communicate to vice presidents.

-Determines proper handling of rebates to insure allocation to operating statements.

-Approves transactions within designated limits.

-Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.

-Prepares appropriate schedules for annual audit and presents to auditors.

 
qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (Accounting) and 3 to 4+ years' Staff Accounting experience required.

Intermediate to advanced MS Excel is a MUST.

MS Access is highly desirable.

Accounting software, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, E-mail (Outlook), PeopleSoft is a plus.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contracts, financial reports, and legal documents.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or members of the company's business community.

Ability to effectively present information to management and auditors.

Experience in Rebates is a big "plus."

The candidate should be a self-starter, organized, perform with a high degree of accuracy, detailed oriented, should be able to multitask, prioritize, and make decisions. This candidate must have the ability to meet deadlines and to be flexible according to the needs of the business.

Ability to apply mathematical operations.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret data.
