What's the Sizzle?!!!

Our client is a 52 year-old, middle-market, Private-Equity firm, located in downtown Chicago investing in business services companies with $5-$25M in EBITDA. This firm currently invests from a ~$560 million fund and expects to finish fund raising a 7 th fund later this year.

This firm has an immediate opening for a detail-oriented, conscientious, tax manager to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be involved in tax preparation process from gathering information from the portfolio companies to reviewing returns prepared by our external tax preparers, to providing taxable income estimates for individuals. There are likely some returns that could be handled in-house that are currently outsourced.

responsibilities:
  • Work with VP of Accounting/Tax to establish formal quarterly tax estimate processes and reporting from portfolio companies
  • Prepare or assist with tax models and schedules for each fund and related entities
  • Review quarterly and/or annual tax distribution calculations from portfolio companies
  • Interact with portfolio company executives and paid tax preparers
  • Summarize and report quarterly fund and individual estimates to VP of Accounting/Tax, CFO, and partners
  • Communicate and work with fund tax preparers providing necessary information, manage work flow according to a timeline, and review tax preparer work (e.g., 1065 returns, state returns, etc.)
  • Coordinate the final preparation and filing of returns and distribution of K-1s to investors at various levels
  • Take ownership of our tax processes and share ideas to improve work flow, team, and firm
  • Assist with ad hoc request related to tax structure of new investments, tax-related due diligence questions upon acquisition and exit,
  • Assist with non-tax projects as time allows
 
qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have tax related experience in private equity, real estate, or other partnerships. The candidate should be a self-starter, very detail-oriented, and be able to be flexible and contribute in a small partnership environment (e.g., share ideas, take ownership of responsibilities, as well as an active problem-solver with a customer service mindset).

  • At least 8 years of tax experience with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or advanced degree in Tax
  • Extremely detail-oriented and highly organized,
  • Strong analytical, time management, and communication skills,
  • Strong US federal tax and partnership tax knowledge,
  • Advanced excel skills,
  • CPA preferred,
  • Familiarity with the following is a plus:
    • QuickBooks, OneSource, MS Dynamics and PEView
