job summary:

Privately owned Distribution Company in Weschester County is looking to hire a VP of Accounting. This newly created position will work closely with the CFO and take ownership of all Accounting responsibilities.

The VP of Accounting provides strategic direction and management of all financial functions, including accounting, budget, credit, insurance, tax, risk and treasury. Responsible for developing the overall financial policies for a mid-sized corporation. Designs and coordinates a wide variety of accounting and statistical data and reports. Ensures that proper financial controls are in place and that financial transactions support the overall business strategy while conforming with applicable laws and regulations.

responsibilities:
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls
  • Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors
  • Manages external audit
  • Coordinates with tax consultants
  • Interfaces with bank
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
  • Responsible for full cycle financial accounting and analysis for the company in accordance with US GAAP
  • Continuous maintenance of the General Ledger/ Chart of Accounts/ Journal Entries
  • Closing the General Ledger on a monthly, quarterly, and annual close
  • Ensure that monthly bank reconciliations are completed
  • Perform routine financial analysis of monthly corporation balance sheet with flux analysis' explanations and dispositions for the CFO's review
  • Prepares borrowing base certificate for CFO's review
  • Preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements for review by Management
  • Provide cash flash reports as directed by the CFO and manage cash accordingly
  • Reconcile all physical inventory and maintain accuracy in transactions and records for all inventory
  • Ensure all invoices/billings are accurately and timely billed to customers
  • Monitor receivable collections, take actions to accelerate collections, and maintain credit/payment histories of customers
  • Month end closing duties as assigned by the CFO
  • Monitor compliance with the Company's personnel, accounting, and financial-related policies and procedures

  • A four-year degree in Accounting
  • CPA preferred
  • 10+ years of related experience at a small to medium sized company.
  • Managerial skills and experience
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication internally and externally to a variety of third parties
