Partner in the Chicago practice of Tatum whose 35+ year career includes serving as CFO of a health care Third Party Administrator, CFO of a division of UnitedHealth Group, VP of Finance, Controller and Financial Consultant for public, private equity owned and not-for-profit healthcare and other organizations. Based in Minneapolis.

Among his professional Tatum engagements 

• Prepared financial assessment of $2.3 Billion Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS).  At completion of assessment, became the interim Controller at Marshfield Clinic (with 700+ physicians) which converted to VP of Finance as the system moved to a shared service model as MCHS converted from decentralized to a centralized Accounting/Finance team reporting to the CFO. During the 18 month project, presented financial statements and budgets to Marshfield Clinic Finance Committee, created a signature and approval authority policy and other key policies, worked with leadership to solve $53 million budget gap for FY17 budget, negotiated a system wide contract with Strata Decision Technology (software), created master chart of accounts for use by the 9 companies that comprise the health system.

• Interim Controller of $600+ million ABRA Auto Body & Glass LP that recently went through a $750M recapitalization as a result of a sale to a private equity group. The company averaged 3-5 new acquisitions per month. This 16 month project including staying on an extra 4 months to transition to new permanent Controller and to get through the year-end audit. 

• Consultant on 5 unrelated due diligence projects, including a Contract Research Organization (CRO) with $13 million in revenue, a CRO with $19 million in revenue, a CRO with over $21 million in revenue, a Canadian CRO with CA$28M in revenue, and a $100+ million physician practice with operations in multiple states.  All projects include converting their financial statements from cash basis to GAAP basis in preparation to sell the companies, preparing forecasts and due diligence readiness.

• Co-CFO/Controller for this $400+ million St. Francis Health Center in Topeka KS for 26 months.  Prepared board report financial package and attended board meetings. Identified numerous errors in Excel templates for financial reporting that had been developed by the corporate office. Created analysis for use by Chief Medical Officer to review physician ALOS and costs versus peers and norms. Implemented a daily key metrics report for SFHC’s physician clinics with 100+ providers. Prepared pro-forma for wound care center and negotiated contract with national advanced wound care partner resulting in new wound center at St. Francis. Prepared volume assumptions for strategic plan and strategic initiatives. Identified issues with 2 contracts that resulted in savings of over $1 million to St. Francis Health Center.

Roger received his Master of Science in Health Care Fiscal Management from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and a Bachelor of Arts in Hospital Financial Management from Concordia College, Moorhead MN.

When not at work, Roger is an avid supporter of the Minnesota Vikings, the Minnesota Timberwolves and enjoys hiking and Minnesota’s lakes.
